i, 15: Interless

I, 15 is a solo artists from Ireland producing what can best be described as alternative indie, veering towards hints of rock and electronica. His latest song Interless exhibits a raw talent, captivating the listener with his modulated voice and harmonious tones. When listening to i,15 I personally always feel a sense of reflection particularly in regards to Interless. A continuous bass-line that quickly hooks you in combined with an upbeat drum pattern and the somewhat soothing voice makes a great song.

I spoke to i,15 (Luke Barnett) myself and was delighted to hear there are several new projects for the future. At the moment i,15 consists of just Luke but soon he will be teaming up with equally interested talented musicians and launching the band in January. Expect an ep release in early 2014 and until then keep entertained with this totally sweet video starring Sarah Tapes Jenkinson, awesome threads designed by Michelle Reilly and sick tune by i,15. Enjoy. xo

Chance the Rapper: Brain Cells

Chancelor Bennett also known as Chance the Rapper is a 19 year old hip hop artist from Chicago. Chance released his first mixtape in 2011 during a period where he was suspended from high school, his teachers taunted him for his aspirations of becoming a successful musician & today that same mixtape '10 Day' has had over 20,000 downloads. This artist combines his wonderfully melodic singing with his intelligent rhythmic rap flow which can be best described as mellow hip hop. Brain Cells is an easy listening tune with a carefully thought out video, this talent at such a young age is an exciting journey for the hip hop industry.

Lauryn Hill: Doo Wop (Deebs Bootleg)

Deebs is a Canadian musician who creates mostly electronic remixes of various tunes. The heavy bass lines combined with samples pitched differently gives his music a sense of ambiance. Every tune I've heard from this artist I love, as you could listen to them at home or in a club. I particularly like this bootleg of Doo Wop because I'm a massive fan of Lauryn Hill & Deebs has definitely done the song justice. Another favourite of mine is his Dreary Dayz Rework of OutKast' Unhappy. You can check out all his music on his soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/willdiebel

Flume: Left Alone feat. Chet Faker (Ta-ku remix)

Recently I've been coming across an assortment of amazing music all created by Australian artists. Ta-ku' remix of Left Alone by Flume & Chet Faker appears to be the perfect example. All three musicians are from OZ which has encouraged me to find out what else Australia has to offer in regard to music. Flume, Chet & Ta-ku all specialise in various genres of electronica music & when that's fused it makes something you cannot stop listening to e.g Left Alone. Enjoy. xo

Dead Times: Feel

Dead times is an American band originally from Arizona now based in LA. The group consists of Travis Bunn & Calvin Markus, the duo create alternative & somewhat ambient R&B. Feel in my opinion is a suitable title for this song as Markus' vocals contain great emotion, combined with the melody which really sets a relaxed tone. Dead Times are a relatively new band & I'm excited to see what they have in store for the future.

Mykki Blanco: Haze Boogie
Michael David Quattlebaum Jr. is a 24 year old rapper and all round entertainer. He transforms into the powerful & raw female Mykki Blanco, creating something that has never been done before in hip hop. In my opinion I think it should be noted that this artist is extremely talented & shouldn't just be known for being a drag Queen, he produces quality tunes that deserve coverage. Although his videos are amazing, wearing incredibly slick garments that I really don't think someone like Jay - Z could pull off.

Tune of the week, 04-03-13

The GTW: Cravings

The GTW is a vocalist originally from Nigeria, now based in Chicago. His down tempo hip hop mixed with his falsetto voice creates relaxed music making it impossible for you to not chill out when listening to him. Surprisingly the GTW is unsigned although I doubt this will be the case for long. "Cravings" samples Flight Facilities "Crave You" in such a prestigious way, making it difficult to decide which tune is better.

Le1f: Wut

New York rapper Le1f is certainly part of the entourage that has some close minded hip hop enthusiasts disturbed. Like other rappers such as Zebra Katz & Mykki Blanco Le1f is openly gay. However this doesn't define their music & definitely doesn't make 'gay rap' a genre as Le1f exclaimed himself. It's evident that this young rapper is talented, his video although bizarre is addictive & his voguing is amazing.

Tincture: You'll Learn

Tincture is an Australian producer who has only been making tunes for the past year. This 23 year old musician fuses several genres into his bootlegs creating a very modern distinctive sound. You'll Learn is a remix of Ushers 'Burn', with the perfect amount of Dub, Garage style percussion & definitely Usher. Excited to see what's next for Tincture.

Grande Marshall: Thuggin Shidd Pt II

Grande Marshall is a 19 year old rapper from Philadelphia. He's been noted to say he's part of a new art movement where rap music isn't all about aggression. This is quite noticeable in his music as he still uses blunted beats but yet rhymes in a mellow somewhat calming form. His mixtape 800 can be found on his Soundcloud page: https://soundcloud.com/grandemarshallmusic/sets/grandemarshall-800

Madegg: Black

20 year old Kazumichi Kamatsu known as Madegg is a Japanese producer signed to Flau Records. He's been creating experimental electronic music since the age of 15, with music available on bandcamp.com & an EP with Flau which is due to be released this Spring.

Hype Williams: Rescue Dawn

London based Hype Williams consists of Dean Blunt & Inga Copeland. The two are creating something unusual that's hard to pin down specifically. After listening to their EP 'Ebony' I would say they're an experimental, post indie duo. Rescue Dawn with its imaginative video, sample from Chris Brown' 'Holla at Me' & slowed down Pokémon theme tune lyrics, there's nothing you could possibly dislike.

Tune of the week. 14-01-13

Clean Bandit: Nightingale

London based band Clean Bandit are bringing something completely new in 2013. With a string quartet, electro - acoustic drums, keys & R&B vocals they're very original.  Every gig they play is live, which shows their amazing musical talents. This video as well as their others which I've seen is great. Looking forward to see what they have to bring for the rest of the year.

Tune of the week. 07-01-13

Angel Haze: Werkin Girls

Young rapper Angel Haze is my new favourite female lyricist. Everything about her, from her tunes to her style has attitude, she manages to pull off an androgynous air & still be feminine which is always good to see compared to some female artists. Haze recently released a diss against Azealia Banks that's definitely worth checking out. Angel Haze' album Reservation EP can be downloaded for free on her website: http://www.angelhazemusic.com/#!All
Enjoy.

Ben Pearce: What I might do

A few weeks ago my friend & I heard this tune being played in a club in Brighton, after hounding the DJ for the name (which he claimed he didn't know) we eventually found it ourselves. Hope you enjoy it as much as us.

Baths: Lovely Bloodflow

I've recently discovered an American musician who calls himself Baths. I immediately loved his chilled out, ambient sound as I usually listen to similar stuff. However his voice is what I really enjoy as it's something different & kinda creepy. Which is sweet.
